Screen-free doesn't mean fun-free
At the beginning of January, I posted a challenge for all NBC Watershed Explorers to consider trying a screen-free day with their families. My hopes/goals for the challenge were that one: students would spend more time connecting with their families and two: they would get outdoors, a place not many venture during the winter months. To quote Panic at the Disco, I had "high, high hopes," but alas nearing the end of the month I still had no one complete the challenge. However, all that changed yesterday when to my excitement, I opened my inbox and I had an email from Dominic!!
I would like to congratulate Dominic and his entire family for completing the screen-free challenge on Sunday, January 27th. In addition to getting outdoors at Slater Park (pictures below), Dominic made homemade soup with his dad, made play-doh creations with his brother, and played a board game with his whole family. Dominic's mom even told me that they had so much fun they will definitely do it again!
Dominic will be awarded with a nature-related goody bag in February. I hope that seeing this post will inspire more Watershed Explorers to complete the challenge, remember, screen-free doesn't mean fun-free!
