I had the absolute privilege last night of hearing the remarkable Dr. Jane Goodall speak at the University of Rhode Island. In her speech, Dr. Goodall spoke about many amazing topics, but the one that struck me most was that of hope. She said that one of those places for hope is in our young people. I know this, and see this first hand in every school that I have the pleasure of working with. I have been so unbelievably impressed so far this year by each and every student. Your energy, your excitement, and your willingness to learn and to explore is hope for this world. Eventually, each and every one of you is going to have to do what Dr. Goodall says is, "decide what kind of difference you want to make." I have no doubt that many of you will decide to make a positive difference in this world. We need hope like that for our future, in fact, our world depends on it.
I look forward to a wonderful year with each and every one of you and hope that we can all learn something from each other.
