As a brand new year begins, there is always so much reflection on the past year and contemplation for the year ahead! Many of us wish to accomplish new goals, and some even list them and check them off as they go. I do like lists, but this year I would like to have the freedom to choose goals based on ideas that inspire me as I move forward each day.
One such inspiration came just yesterday and has given me my first goal of 2019. Starting this week, my family will have screen-free Saturdays. Linda McGurk author of the book, There's no such thing as bad weather, suggested in a recent blog post, that families choose a screen-free day. She noted that she, along with her two girls, make this even more fun by all writing ideas on little bits of paper which they fold and put into a bowl. On the screen-free day, they choose one and do it!
There are so many great pieces to this that I love, but the one challenge I would add is to make all of the activities those which can be done outdoors. Now, not only are the screens being stored away for the day, but families are getting outside too!
I want to encourage you to suggest this idea to your family, choose a day that works best, and go for it! I would love to hear about your screen-free adventures, please post some stories and photos in the comments section of the blog. Let's inspire each other!
