Happy first day of spring Watershed Explorers. First, let me start by saying that I hope that warmer and longer days will get some of you outside to explore! Spring brings so much life out, there is so much to see outdoors!

I wanted to touch base with all of you, because spring often makes people think of spring cleaning and what better time to start really reviewing our STUFF!!! I posted a great article under the Really Cool tab that discusses the 4 R's, Review, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. I love this addition of the NEW first R, and that the article reminds readers that recycle is in the last spot for a reason. It is really much more important to review what we have, find ways to reduce our consumption (buying items), and reuse what we can, than it is to find ways to recycle the stuff and just buy more! The article notes that the world generates an average of 1.3 billion tons of trash per year, most of which ends up in our landfills and inevitably in our oceans! Also, much of what we think we are recycling cannot be recycled or has already been recycled and can't be recycled again.

The article provides a great checklist to help with the first R (review) and provides ways to complete the second R (reduce). I hope you will take the time to read it and share it with your families!!
