DEM Delights

Good Morning Watershed Explorers,

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) offers many educational programs for children and adults. With the impact of COVID-19 like so many other organizations, DEM is now offering some of these programs online.

Here is a link to the DEM education youtube channel where you can check out some informative videos about Rhode Island wildlife as well as other great explorer topics. My favorite is the video on invasive species, but the one on turkeys is fun too. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKn0NqCeG4NwF1IsCwzXBDQ

The DEM education offices also develop a seasonal magazine called the Wild Rhode Island Explorer which has some wonderful articles showcasing not only wildlife in Rhode Island, but also critical DEM staff and what their careers entail. The magazine also has some fun activities that students can complete. This season's issue is perfect for Watershed Explorers because the activity is a match between macro-invertebrate larvae and their adult! Be sure to check out the critter cam page as well, to see some cool shots of critters captured in action.

If there are topics that you would like to see covered in an upcoming blog, please email me. I hope that you are all getting out to enjoy the beautiful weather this week. I miss you all!

Much love,

Mrs. Morissette
